Shiseido 7 Color Powders Revival Centennial Edition - A little piece of history, a little bit of luxury

Very few people know that exactly 100 years ago in 1917, long before our modern mass obsession with color correction and Meteorites, Japanese mega-brand Shiseido branched out from skincare and marked its first foray into the world of makeup with the launch of what was fondly called “Rainbow Powders”, a set of 7 luxury face powders in different color-correcting tones that was soon seen on the vanities of fashionable women and famous geisha.
This year, they are relaunching luxe replicas of the Rainbow Powders in geometric fabric wrapped boxes, along with a couple of other skin-perfecting products, the 7 Lights Powder Illuminator and Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother.
All eyes are on the kit of 7 powders though. The formulas have been updated with new technology of course, but there’s just something so wonderful about this little reminder of history and innovation. It’s also a reminder that our time in front of the vanity can be a ritual; a moment of peace and luxury in the madness that is daily life.
