Umm… so, I have a little bit of a Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab obsession.

I love all the stories and evocative imagery behind each scent and I’ve always preferred oils to alcohol bases. (You will never find me buying a Le Labo perfume spray when there is an oil version to be had.)

I love the variety (hundreds and hundreds of options to satisfy your every whim, mood and fantasy) and the fact that they use an oil base that doesn’t go rancid after awhile. I also admit that I over-romanticize and like to imagine it’s done the way fragrances used to be made back in ancient times. Hand blended with concretes, absolutes, and oils, not by lab techs with chemistry degrees working with long equations and precise equipment in a sterile lab.

And I am not snobby enough to have a problem with the fact that BPAL is family-run and nobody seems to have a chemistry degree or training at Givaudan. No, I don’t love every single scent I try from BPAL; neither do I love every Chanel perfume. (In fact I am probably more annoyed when people with all that chemistry training and big budgets come up with crap, forgettable, cookie-cutter scents that disappear in 2 hours.)

These little bottles give me plenty of fun and enjoyment, and at the end of the day, that’s all there is to it isn’t it?

Do you have a scent obsession and what is it? Or if you wear BPAL what are some of your faves?
