Affordable Holiday Goodie: The Body Shop Swinging Silver Palette
–
I feel The Body Shop’s makeup doesn’t quite get enough love in many parts of the world. For the price, they’ve really raised the bar on quality compared to just a few years back.
Case in point? The Swinging Silver palette from the 2015 holiday collection. This is pretty no-frills as far as packaging goes. No fancy case or brush; it’s an eco-friendly cardboard palette with a good sized mirror and strong magnets.
What’s to love? The shadows. They are very smooth, very finely-milled. Maybe not the creamiest or most luxurious formula in the world, but I’ve definitely tried higher-end palettes that were not even as good as these. And the color combination for this quad is very versatile.
- The peach shade itself can be used as a warm transition color in the socket if you have pale to medium skin.
- You can wear peach and grey for a simple warm-neutral day look.
- You can wear just the navy and silver for a dramatic night look.
- You can skip the peach if you want a very cool-toned Rock ‘n’ Roll smoky eye.
In fact - I wouldn’t see TBS quads as “holiday palettes”. They tend to be well put-together and similar to the sort of color combinations you would find with higher-end palettes; hence they’re more like year-round palettes you happen to only buy during the holidays.
The wrist swatches are done with fingers, but the eye look is done with brushes, so you can see the quality for both. I used a navy liner to emphasize the lash line, but stroked the navy shadow over the pencil using the sponge-tip applicator that comes with the palette. This sets the pencil and brings out the navy sheen.
I haven’t gone to the stores to check out the full range but based on what I’ve seen in the past few years, they usually have a warm/neutral palette and a cool one.
Have you guys tried these and what do you think of them?
